Canada's Fur Industry: A Lesson in Critical Thinking


Calling all Fashion, English, ESL, Social Studies, History and Social Justice teachers!

The Association for the Protection of Fur-Bearing Animals now offers FREE presentations to community groups!

  • Presentations vary in length - 1/2 hour to 1 hour.
  • Students will explore the history of the Canadian fur trade and compare it to the modern day fur trade.
  • Hands-on activities including trap demonstrations, will be provided.
  • Video excerpts of modern day fur farming and fur trapping practices will spark debate and discussion about ethics.
  • Through group-work and role-playing, students can explore how the fur trade relates to animal welfare, the environment and human rights.
